Social Studies

The mission of the EHMIS Social Studies Department is to cultivate the abilities of young people to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good. Social studies a vast subject, so we focus on introducing students to the discipline through the lenses of history, government, geography, and culture through dynamic learning experiences in reading, writing and speaking. Our students will use primary and secondary sources of information to develop arguments, collaborate with their peers in project based learning, and utilize technology as a tool for research as well as engage in civil dialogue about people, places, and events of the past and present. Learning experiences will enable our students to understand the complexities of our ever-changing world in order to become engaged citizens of a culturally diverse and democratic society.
